Integrated Tribal Development Fund – WADI Project
Wadi is an Agri-Hortiforestry model that promotes tree-based farming. Since 2014, JJK has been instrumental in implementing the inter-cropping method in the Markacho block of Koderma district and Bishnugarh block of Hazaribagh district. Through this method orchard plantation and obtaining more from a single piece of land through intercropping has been possible for the tribal farmers.
This model consists of a plantation of 50 to 60 plants (2 to 3 species of grafts) on one acre of land with forestry along the borders. The one-acre land is also provided with live hedges and dry fencing.
This project is funded by Tribal Development Fund (Wadi project) is supported by NABARD.
Activities:
- In this project, the farmers are encouraged to use the dry land and with the help of soil and moisture conservation, they have been able to produce well.
- Under the Wadi program, mango and guava orchard have been planted in more than 400 hectares of land along with inter-cropping
- Women farmers have also been provided training and income generation programs have been conducted for them.
- Output: More than 1000 farmers have benefited from this program.
