SKILL TRAININGS
Jan Jagran Kendra is implementing a project for the development of crafts based on bamboo, Docra, terracotta, jute, brass, metal and traditional silver jewellery involving artisans at Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand. The project aims to uplift the status of these artisans by helping them to develop their skills with modern tools and technologies and helping them to market their products in an effective and profitable manner. This has been achieved by forming self help groups among artisans, training them on various aspects ranging from developing skills to entrepreneurship. The project has been helpful mostly to the rural people. They were also linked with bank to avail loans for further development. Besides, the project also looks after the social need of the artisans. This includes life and health insurance of the artisans and opportunities are provided for educational scholarships to the children of these artisans.
TRAINING OF PRI REPRESENTATIVES
In its effort of strengthening the PRI Institution, JJK has provided training to 1202 Representatives of PRI including Ward Members and Mukhiyas of Kashmar, Peterwar, Chandankyari and Gomia Block of Bokaro District. The PRI Members were provided basic knowledge on the roles, responsibilities, committees and functioning of Gram Sabha, Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad. Further, the Members were provided knowledge regarding their own roles and responsibilities for smooth functioning and result oriented work.
STRENGTHENING PRI INSTITUTION
PRI has always been on the prime agenda of the organization. The true democracy comes from the democracy felt and practiced at the last door of the remotest village of the nation. With this feeling JJK has started its revolution of implementation of the true PRI Institution.
APPRAISAL OF PRI REPRESENTATIVES
With the selection of PRI Representatives in the Democratic way after more than 2 decades of wait, JJK has decided for the appraisal and the capacity building of the PRI Representatives. In the event, elected PRI representatives as Ward Members and Mukhiyas from different Wards and Gram Panchayats of Hazaribag District are brought on a common platform for their recognition and capacity building to perform as per the expectation of the common people. The Representatives were provided with the basic knowledge of the worthy implementation of the PRI institution for the benefits of the last man in a positive mode.
TRAINING OF TRAINERS
JJK has organized training for the trainers at the District level in Bokaro District for the enhancement of the knowledge and awareness of the duties and responsibilities of the PRI Representatives and Functionaries. The training was provided to 30 Professionals at the District level to imbibe the knowledge further at the grass root level through PRI Representatives.
RESEARCH ON MALARIA
The organisation has been actively supporting to Govt. of Jharkhand in its malaria prevention drive since year 2005. In this program awareness campaign were organized by the JJK team. Ten melas were organized in two blocks. More than twenty thousand populace partook in these melas. Blood sample have been taken from suspicious people and free drugs were distributed to the malaria patients.
JJK is assisting an action research in estimation of Malaria Burden in Hazaribag district. This action research is done with support of National Institute of Malaria Research (ICMR) at eight sites in different block (Sadar block - Matwari, Hari Nagar, Khirgaon, Churchu block - Nagari, Mandu block - Gargali, Toyra, Keredari block - Salga & Gola block - Ghaghra) of Hazaribag district.
RESEARCH FOR CHILD LABOUR
JJK has carried out a research to Study of the status of education of out of school children, child labour and orphans in the Hazaribag District. The research is based upon the need of the present schooling system and the need of the target group for the qualitative education of the same. The study included the Personal Interview with children and the school teachers, PRA Exercises, Group Discussions to trace out the socio economic conditions and the ground realities of the beneficiary group. JJK has tried out to find the reasons for hindrances in the 100 percent achievement of the literacy in the target group. The study brought out the main reasons and produced the same in its research work. The reasons included the main reasons to be the lack of implementation of the Government Schemes properly, lack of information among the target groups and the need of earning livelihood among the target group.
